I Love a Party!

We’re waiting for you…

Its been awhile since I’ve written.  I have been busy posting recipes, learning to edit said postings, learning how to navigate the blog, as well as how to help you readers get around.  I also have been inviting authors, (sons) to post their recipes.  I just can’t emphasize enough, how difficult it is for a 74-year-old mind to chew this stuff up and spit it out as a readable product.  The learning has been fun, and Jessica, (the freelancer) has been incredibly patient.  We have a long way to go and hopefully it will never be completely done.  I’m hoping Calan, his brother (  expected in August) and  Liam will post something some day.

We are heading into Easter weekend and the excitement is building.  You’ve heard me say “cooking makes my heart sing”, well when it’s cooking for a family weekend it would better be described as an Aria!!!  I love every minute of it.

I love the planning, who’s coming and when?   What are their favorite things to eat?  What can I do to make them smile and rub their middles with satisfaction? Then there is the menu writing and the thumbing through recipes old and new, to get just the right combination of crowd pleasing ingredients for each meal.  (pretty soon it will be running through the blog for the recipes)

Then comes shopping day.  That was today. I do like to shop, and be in charge of picking just the right cut of meat, perfect vegetable, lovely bottle of wine, I think I like the control.  I must  comment though,  on the number of choices we have on those shelves.  Choices that I never knew existed, in some cases .  I push my cart up to the refrigerated shelves in the “milk” section.  Now most of you know I was raised on a farm  I know about hogs, and beef, and chickens,  I’ve even milked a cow.(once)   I never, never, never milked an Almond tree!!!!!  I lived in central California, the almond capital of the world, I never, never, drove passed and almond dairy!!!!!  O.K but it doesn’t stop there.  Do you know there are about 8 different kinds of marshmellows.  Don’t get me started in the cracker isle, gluten free, salt free, cracker free.  I know this is all amazing progress but oh to only choose whole or skim milk, or sliced or unsliced, bread.

Never-the- less its been a great day  After this writing I will write my schedule for the weekend.  I put the menu for  each meal  and the preperation time on a list next to the fridge.  It really helps get thru the weekend without many hitches.  ( Except forgetting to get the rolls out of the oven.)  My heart is singing, the aria of an entire weekend of food and fun with my favorite people!!
